Fix the weak spots, then treat
Treatment helps shingles that are firmly in place. It cannot fasten a tab that has blown loose or close up a nail that has worked its way out. Treat over those spots and the problems stay put.
So when the assessment finds minor issues, they go on the quote as tune-up lines, each with its own price. You can see exactly what is being repaired before any treatment is added.
Typical tune-up work
Nails and fasteners
Exposed or raised nail heads are resealed or replaced so they stop letting water in.
Flashing
Flashing at walls, chimneys and valleys is resealed where it has lifted or cracked.
Vents and boots
Loose vents are secured and split pipe boots replaced.
Shingles
Loose shingles are fastened down, and missing ones replaced with the closest available match.

Tune-up questions
Is a tune-up ever the only thing a roof needs?
Yes. If the roof needs the fixes but not a treatment yet, the tune-up can be the only line on the quote.
Will new shingles stand out?
We source the nearest match we can find. Next to weathered neighbors a fresh shingle can stand out for a while, so we point out the spots before we begin.
